I'm seeing too many people leave their partners, their kids, their countries, even their entire lives, based on what they're convinced is undeniable cosmic destiny.
The popular story goes like this. You meet someone and feel a complete magnetic pull. You can't stop thinking about them. The connection feels otherworldly. It must be your twin flame, your soul's mirror, the person you've been searching lifetimes for. So you blow up everything to be with them.
And often, it doesn't end well. The intensity fades, the cracks appear, and you find yourself standing in the rubble of your old life wondering what just happened.
Before you do that, there are some things worth considering. What feels like destiny is sometimes something else entirely.
One of the most common things I see is past life trauma masquerading as twin flame energy. Especially when the pull is felt most strongly in the base chakra.
The base chakra holds our deepest material around safety, survival and security. When there's unresolved trauma sitting there, particularly trauma shared with another soul, meeting that person again can feel like an undeniable, magnetic, almost sexual pull.
That pull isn't romantic destiny. It's two energy fields recognising unfinished business. The intensity is the trauma trying to surface. If you don't know what's happening underneath, it's very easy to misread the signal.
Sometimes when a relationship is genuinely done, there needs to be a strong catalyst to make the change happen. The intensity is real. The pull is real. It doesn't necessarily mean you're supposed to be with that person long-term. They're showing up to move you out of something, not into a new forever.
These catalysts are often members of your soul family who agreed to help you with a significant transition. Their job is the disruption. Their job is the wake-up call.
Once the change has happened, the magnetic pull often fades. If you leave everything for them and then watch the connection lose its charge a few months later, that's usually what was going on.
And then sometimes, yes, there IS a real soul connection. Here's how you can tell.
A genuine deep soul connection is felt in the heart and higher chakras, not the base chakra. It's a knowing. A recognition. A settled resonance that doesn't need to be acted on with urgency.
True soul connections often don't even carry a strong sexual charge. They're softer than that. More like coming home to a frequency you've always belonged to. There's no desperation. No "I have to have this person." Just a deep, quiet acknowledgment that this soul matters to yours, whatever shape the relationship takes in this lifetime.
The term "twin flame" has been so overused that I think it's actively hurting people now. Anyone who feels an intense pull starts using the language, and then uses it to justify decisions that can be devastating for the people around them.
Whatever the pull is, if it's intense, it's worth checking out the deeper connection before you change your whole life.
Real soul connections don't need you to blow up your life to honour them. They can be felt, acknowledged and walked alongside in whatever form makes sense. The ones that demand destruction usually aren't what you've been told they are.
If you're in the middle of a pull like this and want to know what's underneath it, see how healing sessions work.
My teenager came home talking about metacognition. It turns out the most practical gift of spiritual work is the space between reaction and response.
The vow to protect a small child can feel like control to a teenager. Why our closest bonds need updating, and the one question to ask.
The same situation, a different face. What a pattern is, how to spot one, where they come from and how they heal.
