Why healing feels harder the more you heal

From The Guide Newsletter

There's an analogy I often use with clients, because it explains the healing journey better than anything else I've found.

Healing is like looking through a filthy windscreen.

The filthy windscreen

At the beginning, the glass is completely covered in crap. Old trauma, old beliefs, old conditioning, old hurt. You can barely see anything except the mess. You don't even know what the road ahead looks like.

Every time you get triggered, it's like the windscreen lights up with another reminder of everything that feels wrong with you. Another smear. Another splatter. Another thing you think you have to fix.

It feels overwhelming. Too much to clear. So you push the feelings down and keep driving blind.

The first clean

Then you start healing. Maybe through energy work, maybe through belief clearing, maybe through something else entirely.

And suddenly a tiny patch of glass becomes clear. Just a little one. But it's enough to give you a glimpse of what's on the other side. Then another patch clears. Then another.

It's messy at first. You smear more than you remove. You clear one bit and uncover something bigger behind it. But the more you clean, the more you can see.

Once you get even one clear spot, you realise there's a whole world out there waiting for you.

Why healing feels harder as you improve

This is the part nobody talks about.

The cleaner your windscreen gets, the bigger the remaining crap looks.

One smudge suddenly feels like a whole disaster. One old pattern feels enormous. One emotional dip feels like you've gone backwards ten steps.

But you haven't. You're simply seeing it more clearly.

At the beginning there was so much dirt on the window that nothing stood out. Now you only have a few little splatters left, so they look magnified by contrast.

This is a sign that you're deep in the healing process, not failing at it. The big stuff is gone. What's left are the last fragments of old patterns and the final layers of old beliefs.

The shift that changes everything

There comes a point where staring at the windscreen is no longer helpful.

You know you've done the work. You know you've cleared most of the mess. You know the last bits will shift when they're ready.

This is the moment you change your focal point. You lift your eyes and look past the glass, into the distance. You start focusing on the life you want to create, the person you're becoming, the future that's calling you.

Your brain can only focus on one depth at a time. When you look to the horizon, the dirt on the window drops out of view. Not because it's gone, but because it's no longer the most important thing.

This is the moment healing turns into living.

What my work is about

This is exactly what I help clients with. We start with the muddy windscreen. We clear the blocks. We shift the energy. We let the emotions move.

Then we reach that beautiful turning point where you finally get to look through the window, not at it. Healing stops being the project and life becomes the focus. Your desires, your joy, your freedom.

A question for you

Have I been staring at the dirt on the windscreen, or am I ready to look up and see the road ahead?
