How to choose an energy healer

From The Guide Newsletter

My clients are my mirrors.

Not in a superficial way. The patterns that show up in a session, the emotions that surface, the resistance or the breakthroughs, don't just belong to the person I'm working with. They also light up places in my own system that are asking to be seen.

And here's what I've come to understand. When I do my own work on what arises in me, that's when the deepest healing happens for my client.

The mirror principle

When someone comes to see me, they bring an energetic field, and that field interacts with mine. It stirs things. It shows me where I still have work to do.

In the early days I thought this was a problem. If something came up for me during a session, I thought it meant I wasn't holding space properly. I've since realised this is actually how it works. The session isn't happening to them while I watch from the sidelines. It's happening between us.

When I recognise what's being mirrored back, sit with it and clear it in myself, something shifts. Their system, which is deeply intelligent and always looking for a way through, recognises the shift and follows it.

What this doesn't mean

Let me be clear. I'm not using my clients to process my own stuff. I'm not sitting in sessions thinking about my life while they're talking.

When a client brings a theme, such as anxiety, grief or a pattern they can't shift, I pay attention to what it stirs in me. Not as a distraction. As information. Then I do my own quiet work on it afterwards.

The clearest channel can clear the most

If I'm carrying unresolved patterns, unprocessed emotions, or places where I'm still stuck or defended, they create interference. They limit how much can move through me, which limits how much can move through the session.

When I keep clearing my own channel, I become more available. More present. More able to hold whatever wants to emerge, without my own unfinished business getting in the way.

This isn't about perfection. It's about willingness.

What to look for in a healer

So how do you know if the person you're working with understands this?

You won't find it on their website. But you'll feel it.

  • A quality of presence. Someone who is genuinely in their own process.
  • Groundedness.
  • An absence of performance.
  • A willingness to sit in the depth of what you bring without rushing to fix it.

Your nervous system will recognise it before your mind does. You'll feel safer. You'll feel more seen. You'll feel like there's space for whatever needs to emerge.

You don't have to stay with one healer forever

Different practitioners carry different fields, different life experience and different layers of their own work. One person's presence might be exactly what unlocks something in you at one stage, and someone else entirely might be what's needed six months later.

That's not disloyalty. That's discernment. A good practitioner will quietly celebrate when you're called somewhere new, because they know healing leads you forward, not into dependency.

Honestly? My greatest joy would be for my clients to reach a point where they no longer need me.

A question to sit with

Are the people you're working with still a mirror that's serving your growth? Are they still moving something? Or is it time for a new reflection?

Your body already knows.

If you'd like to see whether I'm the right fit for you, see how healing sessions work.
